The car starts ok - can drive 3-5kms and pull over for 10 mins (eg: fuel up at servo) and drive 200m then relays behind glovebox start clicking on and off, at the same time the ignition turns on/off and tacho needle fluctuates also, the problem seems get worse as the engine gets hotter, however if I drive at 80kms or more I could probably run the tank dry without any problems. As I pulled over to the side of the road (still rolling 10kph) I turned the ign key to the off position and the car made a hell of a grinding noise, turned key back to on position and noise stopped. I have noticed the ignition lamp dims gradually (instead of flicking off) after the vehicle is started, so I isolated the alternator by removing all the connections and ran just on battery power - no change - replaced the distributor, power tranny - no change - took vehicle to Auto Sparkies cost $200 and they couldn't fault it (cleaned main relay & idled car for 4 hrs). No one seems to have heard of the problem before, it's been a great getaway car but i'm a bit reluctant to throw any more time and money at it, so if anyone out there has any ideas they would be greatfully appreciated.
