Overheating | 1990 Daihatsu Applause 5 comments | Colin Australia, Queensland, Brisbane | ![]() | |
The car overheats (bubbles over into the overflow tank) after driving for only about 10 minutes or so. The Temp gauge sometimes moves up to hot although sometimes it bubbles over with the gauge still only at about half way. It doesn't happen all the time but often enough to be too unreliable to drive anywhere further than 5 minutes away. The problem was apparent soon after we purchased the car. The first time it was noticed that the fan was not connected? Connected it up thinking it would be all good. Unfortunately the car still would overheat/bubble over same as before. I have seen the fan go on so it does work. Took the car to a cooling system specialist and was advised there were signs of a bad head gasket. Ended up replacing the motor to fix that. No signs that the head is an issue now but still the same overheating problem. The thermostat was replaced, still the same problem. Had the radiator recored, still have the same problem. I have spent more money than it would have cost to replace the whole car and it still overheats. What else can I do? I need to have the car running reliably. |
